Integrating Literature-Based Learning Experiences To Support Students’ Phonological Awareness Development(K-1)

Description: During this training, participants will become more familiar with the components of phonological awareness.  They will explore and discuss engaging books and interactive activities that can be used in the classroom to support phonological awareness development. Additionally, participants will gain a greater understanding of phonological awareness and how it impacts early reading and writing.

Bio:

Dr. Melanie Loewenstein is currently an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at Texas A&M-University Commerce.  She teaches both Early Childhood and Reading undergraduate courses and supervises pre-service teachers in the field.  She has served over 20 years as a classroom teacher, Reading Recovery Teacher and literacy instructional specialist at the elementary school level.  Her research interests include emergent and early literacy instruction and intervention, oral and academic language development and acquisition,
