Presenters: Francisco Usero Gonzalez,  fuserogo@Central.UH.EDU

Shehla Merchant - UH PhD students in Curriculum and Instruction

Description: The educational system's concern for the deficit levels of reading comprehension levels among students is alarming in today's schools. The proposed intervention is based on the “playful-creative” active learning methodology that combines all its efforts in offering a didactic tool to improve and evaluate reading comprehension at early levels, focused on phonological awareness. During this presentation, teachers and participants will learn active strategies and approaches to early literacy skill development through adult mediation with manipulatives and hands-on activities.
