About the event
What cultural norms and assumptions are embedded in the literature we use in our classrooms? How do we select text that represent our students’ diversity and support them to engage in critical conversations about culture? Culturally responsive instruction makes connections with students’ backgrounds, interests, and experiences to teach the standards-based curriculum. Learning becomes more meaningful and relevant as teachers draw upon students’ background and cultural experiences. This session will examine how teachers implement culturally responsive literacy instruction in their content areas.
