2026 Science of Reading + Math Summit
National Literacy Institute
Strengthening Language. Building Reasoning. Transforming Instruction.
DAY 1
Foundations & Core Routines
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Day 1 Overview
Day 1 establishes a shared foundation for high-impact literacy and mathematics instruction across grade levels (K–12). Participants will examine the research behind the Science of Reading and explore how oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, fluency, and number sense serve as the building blocks of academic success. Through live modeling and hands-on application, educators will experience explicit instructional routines that strengthen both word recognition and mathematical reasoning. By the end of the day, teams will leave with practical routines and 30-day action commitments ready for immediate classroom implementation.

DAY 2
Automaticity, Vocabulary & Problem-Solving
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Day 2 Overview

Day 2 deepens the work by focusing on fluency, vocabulary precision, and structured reasoning as drivers of comprehension and mathematical success. Participants will explore decoding, morphology, high-frequency word instruction, and reading fluency alongside math strategy fluency and problem-solving frameworks. The day highlights the powerful parallels between literacy and mathematics, emphasizing how academic language shapes thinking. Through data analysis and collaborative planning, teams will design a focused 4–6 week implementation plan embedding high-yield routines into existing units and schedules.
