The National Literacy Institute is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and service-minded volunteers to help create an exceptional experience for educators from across the country. Whether you enjoy welcoming guests, assisting presenters, organizing materials, or working behind the scenes, we have a place for you on our volunteer team.

Our volunteers are more than helpers—they are ambassadors of the National Literacy Institute and play an essential role in creating a welcoming, professional, and memorable conference experience for every attendee.

Volunteer Opportunities

Registration Team

• Welcome attendees and provide outstanding customer service

• Check in participants and distribute conference materials

• Print and distribute name badges

• Answer general conference questions

• Assist with registration flow and crowd management

Exhibitor & Sponsor Support

• Welcome vendors and assist with exhibit setup

• Provide directions and answer questions

• Support exhibitors throughout the conference

• Assist with giveaways, raffles, and sponsor activities

• Help ensure a positive exhibitor experience

Conference Materials & SWAG Station

• Assemble and distribute conference tote bags

• Organize workshop materials

• Restock conference supplies

• Assist attendees with conference resources

T-Shirt & Merchandise Station

• Distribute conference T-shirts

• Assist with sizing and exchanges

• Manage merchandise inventory

• Keep the area organized and welcoming

NLI Bookstore

• Organize and restock books and educational resources

• Assist participants with purchases

• Support author book signings

• Answer questions about National Literacy Institute publications

Session Support

• Welcome participants into breakout sessions

• Assist presenters with room setup

• Monitor attendance

• Help sessions begin and end on time

• Provide basic technology support as needed

Volunteers should plan to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled shift for orientation and team assignments.

As a volunteer, you can expect:

• A brief virtual orientation before the conference

• Periods of standing and walking depending on your volunteer assignment

• Time to enjoy conference sessions, visit exhibitors, and network with fellow educators when you are not serving your volunteer shift

Volunteer Commitment

To receive complimentary conference registration, volunteers are asked to commit to their assigned volunteer responsibilities and arrive on time for each scheduled shift.

Our goal is for every volunteer to both serve and enjoy the conference experience. We carefully schedule volunteer assignments so everyone has opportunities to participate in keynote sessions, breakout learning, networking events, and the exhibit hall.
